What can I see and do at Freshwater Bay County Park?

  • Boating: Small boats of 17 feet long or less are permitted on Freshwater Bay. Kayaks are a regular site as well and can be easily launched from the bay’s shores. A boat ramp is available as well.
  • Fishing/crabbing: Fishing is also popular on the waters of Freshwater Bay. Expect to fight with the local sea lions for your share of salmon and other catches of the day. Crabbing is also enjoyed by visitors to this park.
  • Whale/Marine Animal Watching: You’ll occasionally spy orcas and gray whales making their way through Freshwater Bay as well as porpoises and dolphins. There are lots of harbor seals, otters, and sea lions here as well, which are fun to watch from a boat or from the shore.
  • Picnicking: The upper level of the park includes plenty of places for enjoying a picnic lunch or dinner. Most of the picnic areas offer incredible views of either the bay or the Strait of Juan de Fuca. However, there are a few picnic areas that are more wooded and secluded. Covered shelters and nearby restrooms are open from May through September. Open picnic tables are available year round.
